Behavioral Health

About This Workgroup

During the Local Health Improvement Coalition meeting, held on December 8, 2011, Behavioral Health was determined to be a leading health priority in our community. Behavioral Health encompasses both Mental Health and Substance Abuse. According to the the State Health Improvement Plan Profile on Harford County, our county has:

  • A higher rate of emergency department visits for a behavioral health conditions per 100,000 population (HSCRC 2010) than the state average
  • A rate of suicides per 100,000 population (VSA 2007-2009) than both the state and national average
  • A higher rate of drug induced deaths per 100,000 population (VSA 2007-2009) than both the state and national average.

The Behavioral Health workgroup, as part of the Harford County Local Health Improvement Plan, has been meeting since February of 2012 to help address these issues.
